History
The reign of Queen Victoria in England from 1837 to 1901 saw the start of the Victorian era, and is usually attached to her reign, hence the name Victorian. As the longest ruling monarch in the British history, the time of her rule is always remembered with fondness, as it was a time of unmatched peace in England, but these were also very exciting times of innovation as it was the beginning of the industrial revolution and many fortunes were being made.
This period comes across as an era that people looked at in a a very positive light, even for those that did not live during that period they find happiness and joy in the images. The Victorian interior design was busy, and by today’s standards could be considered cluttered, however the architecture of the day was grand. The Victorian interior design lives on and is the choice of people all over the world.
Stick It on Your Wall
Victorian design wallpaper was one of the hallmarks of this time. Wallpaper in the form we know was developed around the Victorian period, but it has been around since the Roman Empire. Wallpaper was often used by people of means, this was a statement that indicated their ability to afford to paper their walls in all the beautiful colors.
Once wallpaper became a status symbol then came the idea that Victorian interior designs must always include wallpaper. Redecorating your home to be in the Victorian interior design motif must include the hanging of wallpaper. You will probably not enjoy a true Victorian interior design concept if you are not a lover of wallpaper, however you may still choose to consider collecting Victorian era furniture.
The Victorian interior design for floors are usually well kept, beautiful hard wood floors with decorative floor rugs.
